Is Curry safe in pregnancy?
Generally safe
Yes — curry is safe, spice does not cause labour.
What the evidence says
Curry is safe throughout pregnancy. The common myth that spicy food causes labour is not supported by evidence. The main consideration is heartburn or reflux, which can worsen in later pregnancy — in which case milder dishes may feel better. Ensure meat is cooked through, and avoid raw chutneys from uncertain sources.
Why this matters
Capsaicin and curry spices do not cross the placenta in amounts that affect the baby or trigger labour.
