Is Spicy food safe in pregnancy?
Generally safe
Yes — spicy food is safe throughout pregnancy.
What the evidence says
Spicy food is safe throughout pregnancy. It may increase heartburn or reflux (especially in the third trimester), but it does not harm the baby. Old myths about spicy food "starting labour" are not supported by evidence.
Why this matters
Capsaicin and other spice compounds do not cross the placenta in amounts that affect the baby. The main practical issue is maternal reflux.
