Is Peanuts safe in pregnancy?
Generally safe
Yes — peanuts are safe and may reduce allergy risk in the baby.
What the evidence says
Peanuts and other nuts are safe to eat in pregnancy, unless you have a nut allergy yourself. Previous advice to avoid peanuts in pregnancy has been reversed — current evidence suggests eating peanuts during pregnancy may reduce the baby’s risk of peanut allergy.
Why this matters
The old concern about peanuts causing allergies in the baby has not been supported by more recent research. Avoiding peanuts does not prevent allergies and may slightly increase them.
