Is Tea (black tea) safe in pregnancy?
Safe with limits
Yes — but counts toward the 200 mg daily caffeine limit.
What the evidence says
Black tea is safe in pregnancy in moderation. A mug of tea contains roughly 75 mg of caffeine, so 2 mugs is within the 200 mg daily limit. Be mindful of combining tea with coffee or chocolate, which all contribute to the daily total.
Why this matters
Tea contains caffeine, which should be limited to 200 mg daily in pregnancy. Black tea also contains tannins that can reduce iron absorption — avoid drinking tea with iron-rich meals.
