Is Sparkling / fizzy water safe in pregnancy?

Generally safe

Yes — completely safe, a good alternative to sugary drinks.

What the evidence says

Sparkling water and plain soda water are completely safe throughout pregnancy. They can be a useful way to meet hydration goals if plain water is unappealing. Flavoured sparkling waters are also fine, as long as they do not contain caffeine or quinine.

Why this matters

Carbonation is simply dissolved CO2 — no pregnancy risk at all. No sugar, no calories, no contraindications.
