Is Papaya (unripe/green) safe in pregnancy?
Safe with limits
Ripe papaya is fine; avoid unripe/green papaya.
What the evidence says
Fully ripe (orange/yellow) papaya is safe in pregnancy. Unripe or semi-ripe green papaya contains latex and enzymes that may trigger uterine contractions and should be avoided.
Why this matters
Unripe papaya contains papain and a higher latex content, which in some studies have been associated with uterine stimulation.
