Is Liver safe in pregnancy?
Best avoided
Avoid liver and liver products during pregnancy.
What the evidence says
Liver and liver products (including liver sausage and pâté) should be avoided throughout pregnancy because of their very high vitamin A content.
Why this matters
Excess vitamin A (specifically retinol, as found in liver) is teratogenic — it can cause birth defects, especially in the first trimester.
