Is Iron supplements safe in pregnancy?
Generally safe
Yes — safe, and often needed if your iron is low.
What the evidence says
Iron supplements are safe in pregnancy. Many pregnant women develop low iron stores; your midwife will check iron levels with blood tests and may prescribe supplements if needed. Do not self-diagnose and take high-dose iron without a test — excess iron has downsides too.
Why this matters
Iron is essential for the blood-volume increase of pregnancy and fetal development. Supplementation at appropriate doses is safe and recommended when indicated.
