Is Bread (white, wholegrain, sourdough) safe in pregnancy?
Generally safe
Yes — all shop-bought breads are safe in pregnancy.
What the evidence says
All commercially-baked bread is safe in pregnancy, including white, wholegrain, sourdough, rye, and seeded varieties. Wholegrain is preferable nutritionally for fibre and iron content. UK white flour is now fortified with folic acid, adding a small boost to daily intake.
Why this matters
Commercially-baked bread has no pregnancy-specific risks. Wholegrain simply provides more fibre and micronutrients.
