Is Water (tap & bottled) safe in pregnancy?
Generally safe
Yes — UK tap water and bottled water are both safe.
What the evidence says
UK tap water is safe throughout pregnancy — it is rigorously tested and regulated. Bottled still or mineral water is equally fine. Aim for 2–2.5 litres of fluid total per day in pregnancy, with most of this from water. Very high-mineral waters (like certain imported spa waters) are best not consumed in very large amounts, but occasional drinking is fine.
Why this matters
UK water supply standards are among the strictest in the world. Hydration needs increase in pregnancy.
